Education – Education is Fundamental
Jana knows education is a part of our Idaho Constitution and is committed to protecting it from being traded for other non-constitutional budget areas.
Education is the anchor of our State’s well-being and the basis for our ability to defend our nation and protect our way of life. Idaho must have:
- Well-trained, certified professionals providing early childhood education that successfully prepares our children for entering kindergarten.
- Public elementary and secondary education providers that have the staff, resources and facilities they need to provide the free public education our state constitution guarantees to every Idaho citizen.
- Affordable, accessible colleges and universities.
- Efficient, frugal, focused public education administration from the smallest rural elementary school to the State Board of Education.
- Higher education research discoveries that are transferable into the marketplace.
Idaho Constitution, Article IX, Section 1 -
“SECTION 1.LEGISLATURE TO ESTABLISH SYSTEM OF FREE SCHOOLS. The stability of a republican form of government depending mainly upon the intelligence of the people, it shall be the duty of the legislature of Idaho, to establish and maintain a general, uniform and thorough system of public, free common schools.”
Vision for Idaho Education:
To provide cost effective, efficient education pre-K, K-12, college and university programs that meet or exceed federal, state, and local expectations by 2020.
Entrepreneurial Economic Development
At one time, Idaho was home to five Fortune 500 international companies founded by Idaho entrepreneurs. Today, hundreds of small business owners provide Idaho products and services to international markets. By providing resources and a supportive environment, we can transfer knowledge from research into collaborative projects to Idaho entrepreneurs. The goal is to create jobs and business that will put stability back into our economy and provide futures for our children. We can:
- Utilize a blend of the best traditional farming practices and agricultural innovations to create new, improved, and sustainable marketable processes, equipment, and products that lead the worlds’ farming and ranching industries.
- Create incentives and reduce the barriers for forming new and expanding Idaho-based businesses.
- Facilitate getting the right people and the right resources together at the right time to capitalize on Idaho’s brainpower and put our great state on the world economic map.
- Energy Innovation as one of our Potentials:
Energy conservation alone does not appear to be a sufficient solution to this country's ongoing energy and power needs. Technology improvements over the last three decades have made most energy production processes better. Applying lessons learned from other countries along with technology improvements and good environmental management practices to our current and future forms of energy production is critical - which means continuing to explore all forms of energy production with equal merit and consideration: which leaves Nuclear Power on the table for ongoing discussion and development.
Idaho has the capacity to focus entrepreneurial activities on sustainable energy production. Conservation alone will not solve our energy needs. We can:
- Become an international leader in energy innovation.
- Meet our own consumption demands using ecologically and economically sustainable methods.
- Develop a Vision for Idaho’s Energy Future such as:
- Successfully expand safe, reliable and cost-effective energy sources that are market available and that maximize efficient uses of resources by 2014.
Additional areas of potential innovation market viabilities run the gamut of high-technology, Ag-Tech, Bio-Tech, and Film, to the Arts, Education, and Food Processing,
Vision for Idaho Entrepreneurial Economic Development
Now is the time to discover and support the businesses in garages, shops and barns around Idaho that can become the next generation of job-providers here. Ever more effective public/private partnerships with our universities to create greater speed and efficiency in making discoveries and developments marketable are a critical part of our state’s future success. By 2012, we will know what our statewide business potentials are and will have begun to see measurable job growth.
Public Safety & Well-Being
As a 2002 graduate of the Idaho Police Academy (POST), Jana knows that our daily safety and well-being are dependent on our local law enforcement and emergency service providers and our armed U.S. services.
Our law enforcement and emergency service providers protect Idahoans and must have our support.
Idaho needs:
-
Well trained, qualified law enforcement officers, firefighters and emergency medical care providers who have access to ongoing training.
-
Efficient and effective administration.
-
Support for the volunteers who provide emergency medical care and fire protection to our communities.
-
The U.S. Military service people and their families who are living, working, and retiring in Idaho.

The state of Idaho currently operates 14 Executive offices, 45 Executive Agencies and provides oversight and/or operation of 57 Executive Commissions, Councils and Boards. Idaho government is the largest employer in the state. Idahoans want accountability, collaboration and support for entrepreneurial activity within our departments. We can:
- Contain costs through increased public/private and nonprofit collaboration.
- Provide support within state agencies for improving service efficiency and effectiveness.
- Convene the expertise and knowledge from within our state to analyze, create, and implement streamlined state services.
